The first (also called “temporary”) order lasts until your next court date, usually 21 days. After 21 days, the Court will hold a hearing where the judge will decide to continue or cancel the order. You need vigorous legal representation to help you get a temporary restraining order and have the Courts issue a permanent restraining order which can last anywhere from 6 months to 5 years or even longer.
